Liverpool’s remarkable 2019-20 campaign continued on Saturday as they recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win at Norwich City to move 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Sadio Mane came off the bench to the score the winner and the result means Liverpool only need to win five of their remaining 12 league games to be crowned champions.

Everyone knows about Liverpool’s amazing front three as well as their very productive full-backs, however, Jordan Henderson has established himself as a true star this season.

The 29-year-old had the unenviable task of replacing Steven Gerrard as Reds captain but it’s now clear for all to see that he is leader of Jurgen Klopp’s incredible group of players.

Henderson has had his fair share of critics in recent years, however Tim Sherwood has delivered a superb assessment of the traits and qualities the midfielder brings to the table.

Henderson’s 2019-20 season so far

The Englishman, who joined Liverpool from Sunderland way back in 2011, has registered three goals and five assists in 25 league appearances so far this term.

In addition to contributing to goals, Henderson has also lifted both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup trophies this term to back up last season’s Champions League triumph.

Sherwood lauds “unbelievable” Henderson

Whether or not Henderson is a world-class footballer continues to be debated, however no one can doubt his leadership ability and that’s the point Sherwood was eager to emphasise.

Speaking after Norwich 0-1 Liverpool, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager said: “I think what Jordan Henderson gives you, a stats man can’t show you. Okay?

“You’re not seeing what he does. You can see what someone gives you on assists and goals and passes – they don’t see in the dressing room, they don’t see around the training ground.”

The 50-year-old, who played three times for England, added: “What that kid gives you… you cannot quantify. He is an unbelievable leader of that squad.

“There’s better footballers than Jordan Henderson, (but) there’s no better leader. He will go down as one of the most influential captains in Liverpool’s history.”

It’s hard to disagree with Sherwood, and with Harry Kane’s place at Euro 2020 in doubt due to injury, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Henderson captaining his country this summer too.
