Sustainable fashion is a revolution in the fashion industry that came in during the late 20th century in which there is a shift to ecological ways of style. The material used is biodegradable, and it is not heavy on the pocket. Sustainable fashion is also known as eco-fashion, and it is a new wave of style. Looking at the present global crisis, it is necessary to choose an eco-friendly fashion that suits your style. Influencers have already switched and are promoting this sustainable way of fashion. The sad part is that many people are yet to realize things and continue to use the old non-biodegradable material. Giving your wardrobe a sustainable makeover is a need of the hour.

Why Should You Change Your Wardrobe?

Sustainable wardrobe makeover is the need of the situation. Sustainable development is an emerging debatable issue, and fashion incorporated with it marks a new era’s beginning. The scenario of sustainable fashion was very much different in the past. Firstly, people didn’t understand what it meant, and secondly, due to a lack of understanding among the people, many fashion houses and labels were not interested in accepting it.

Undoubtedly, organic fiber availability on such a vast scale was difficult in the past, but currently, many things have changed. Now, the farmers and biotechnologists are producing it on a large scale and most of their production is also getting sold. Sustainable fashion reduces the amount of waste generated. The top-notch designers are opting for this sustainable makeover.

Recyclable fibre is obtained from fossil fuels. It takes more than 5 million litres of water and more than 10% of the carbon percentage to produce clothes. G7 fashion pact has been signed by the leading fashion companies to work towards eco-system development. The waste produced by the petrochemical industry like nylon, acrylic, and polyester is vast, whereas the fibre generated from natural protein like Micro silk and Mylo easily degenerate.

The 3R’s

The 3R’s is a widely known term for a sustainable fashion makeover. This environmental rule is also valid in sustainable fashion – it stands for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle-

  • Reduce: Reduction can be done by limiting the number of clothes we buy. It will reduce the production from fashion industries away. By opting for eco-friendly ways of clothing, the amount of water and chemicals will also get reduced.
  • Reuse: Reusing old clothes in a new way is the latest trend these days. People can do it at home by stitching the old pieces together, making designer tops, designing cushion cover and bedsheets, etc.
  • Recycle: Clothes get recycled in recycling bins. The sorting of clothes is done, depending upon the renewability. Leather items are segregated from cotton and jute clothing. Footwear and clothes are sorted and recycled differently. By following a systematic way of recycling, there is a reduction in the amount of garbage deposited in landfills.

The Latest Trends in Sustainable Fashion

The shift in approach towards fashion has opened the door to various trends. Manufacturing of shoes and jeans from PET bottles, organic cotton Kurti, algae bloom shoes, and faux fur has expanded. As the demand has increased, designers are introducing variations, and they are also trying to continue the former trends but presenting it uniquely. “Best out of Waste” is a new tagline among the sustainable fashion designers. Many fashion shows in Berlin, Paris, and New York support this issue and contribute to saving the Earth. Cloth swapping and cloth donating have gained hype, and people have started showing interest in it on a wide scale.

Supporting Sustainable Fashion

A lot of rallies and marches have begun in support of sustainable fashion worldwide. Designers are trying to introduce various fashion trends using biodegradable fabric to create party wear shirts, trousers, shoes, etc. By supporting sustainable fashion, we are also helping the farmers and increasing their revenue. It has enabled the booming of the biotechnology industry and Bt Cotton, organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, soy, etc. Other natural resources include wild rubber, QMILK, etc. Sustainable wardrobe makeover is a new era of fashion, and gradually people are getting attracted to it.
