Heavy rain, strong winds and possible storms are on the way for Queensland and northern New South Wales today while Western Australia braces for a day of severe heat.

A trough off the east coast will continue to bring significant rain to parts of Queensland and northern NSW however conditions are easing for the Sunshine Coast.

A warning for minor flash flooding is in place for residents living along the Wilsons River at Lismore this morning due to moderate to heavy rain in the area over the last 24 hours.

A strong wind warning has also been issued for Fraser Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

On the opposite side of the country, a severe fire danger warning is in place for parts of Western Australia today due to a high-pressure system.

A trough will move slowly through the southern Goldfields and western Eucla causing temperatures to soar and combine with fresh and gusty winds generating dangerous fire conditions.

A mostly sunny day is forecast around South Australia with warm to hot conditions for the central, west and northern regions.

In Victoria, conditions will be mostly sunny and cool in the southwest with showers clearing in southeast. Sunny and warm in the northwest and northeast as fog clears throughout the morning.

A late shower and very warm temperatures are forecast for the Top End. Mostly sunny, mild-to-warm in Arnhem. Mostly sunny, very warm over the interior. Sunny, warm-to-very warm in the south.

A mostly clear, mild day in Tasmania with fog in Hobart clearing for a sunny afternoon.

A strong wind warning is in place for the South West Lakes, Upper East Coast, South East Coast, South West Coast and Central West Coast of Tasmania today.

Police are desperately seeking help from the public to locate a 13-year-old girl who went missing from her home in Adelaide last Sunday.

Dakota Leo was last seen at the Andrews Farm address at about 2pm on April 4.

She has brown hair and blue eyes, is about 144cm tall with a petite build and pale complexion.

A locally-acquired COVID-19 case has been recorded in Queensland today, believed to be an old infection.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed the historic infection in a tweet, saying it is linked to the hen’s party group who visited Byron Bay

She noted the person was “not a risk to the community” but that the case remained under investigation.

It comes as calls grow to lift coronavirus restrictions on masks and visits to hospitals and nursing homes which were put in place across Queensland last month amid two separate outbreaks linked to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

It has been eight days since Queensland last recorded a new locally acquired case, with that case also deemed to present “no risk” as they had been in quarantine as a close contact.

New South Wales and Victoria have recorded no new locally-acquired infections today, but six new cases were found inside NSW’s hotel quarantine program.
