Ergon Energy advised the unplanned outage was due to damage requiring emergency repairs.Fault finding was in progress at 7.30am and power was restored by 10.30am. Man charged after woman hid in cane fieldFar North detectives have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Wrights Creek man following an alleged violent altercation with a 20-year-old woman who was known to him.Police will allege the Wrights Creek man and the woman were attending a social event at a Hill Road property about 4am Tuesday when an argument erupted. The argument quickly escalated when the man allegedly assaulted the woman by punching andstrangling her.It is further alleged the man armed himself with a knife before the woman ran through a nearby cane field to escape. The man allegedly drove a vehicle around the property searching for the woman as she hid amongst the cane.A short time later, police arrived and arrested the man.He was later charged with eight offences including four counts of contravention of a domesticviolence order and one count each of common assault, strangulation, assault occasioning bodily harm and unlawful stalking.The man was denied bail and is scheduled to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court today.Trees block lanesA fallen tree on Gillies Range Rd at Gadgarra blocked lanes from 6.54am in both directions this morning.The Department of Transport and Main Roads warned motorists to expect delays.The hazard was cleared just after 9am. A tree down on Pine Creek Yarrabah Road has also reduced lanes with delays to be expected at Packers Camp. Bank alarm EMERGENCY services responded to an alarm at a CBD bank about 6.26am. Police were first to respond to the Westpac bank’s Lake Street branch, however after identifying the sound as fire alarm, officers notified Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. QFES crews were able to deactivate the alarm by 6.30am, and no fire was reported. WEATHER The Bureau of Meteorology expects a partly cloudy day in Cairns with a slight chance of a shower in the afternoon and evening, with light winds. The North Tropical Coast and Tablelands area can also expect a partly cloudy day with a slight chance of a shower in the late morning and afternoon. The north may experience a thunderstorm. The project will construct a new 3.8km bypass between the McGregor Road roundabout and the Cairns Western Arterial Road and Captain Cook Highway roundabout as an alternative route to the Captain Cook Highway.BungalowA speed reduction is in force on Mulgrave Road at Bungalow due to culvert damage near Brown Street.Access across culvert in both directions along Mulgrave Road and Brown Street intersection is restricted to vehicles that comply with the general mass and concessional mass limits.Cape Tribulation/ DegarraQueensland Traffic is reporting fallen vegetation on Cape Tribulation Bloomfield RoadEsplanade. All lanes are affected and motorists are advised to avoid the area.Edmonton/GordonvaleRoadworks are being carried out on the Bruce Highway — Cairns Southern Access Corridor — Stage 3: Edmonton to Gordonvale. Delays expected (during active hours of work), with all lanes in both directions affected. The work is expected to run until June 30, 2023.FelugaPotholes have been reported on the Bruce Highway at Feluga in north bound lanes toward Innisfail. No delays expected however drivers are asked to proceed with caution. GordonvaleTemporary closure of Maher Road intersection with the Bruce Highway in both directions. From 7pm Monday to Sunday 7pm until December 31. Forms part of the works for the Bruce Highway, Cairns Southern Access Corridor.Innot Hot Springs/MinnamoolkaAdverse driving conditions on Gunnawarra Road due to slippery surface. All lanes in all directions affected.Kamerunga/RedlynchConstruction on an upgrade of the Cairns Western Arterial Road/Harley St intersection begun last week and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2021.Motorists should expect all lanes of traffic affected by delays during active construction hours, in all directions. Please allow extra travel time.Killaloe/MossmanRoadworks on Bonnie Doon and Junction roads. All lanes in both directions affected. Delays expected during hours. Observe Signage.KurandaBarron River Bridge on the Kennedy Highway reduced to one lane. Restricted to vehicles that comply with general mass limits. Partial lane closures. Both directions affected and delays expected. Allow extra travel time.Lake EachamWrights Creek Road is closed to all traffic. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route. The next road inspection will take place on November 11, 2021.MowbrayDebris (fallen vegetation) on Captain Cook Highway. Lanes southbound towards Oak Beach affected. Delays expected. Proceed with caution.Portsmith/WoreeLong term roadworks are taking place on Aumuller St, Draper St and Ray Jones Dr at Portsmith and Woree.This is due to Cairns Southern Access Stage 4 and works will be carried out until December 24, 2021. A new bypass of the Captain Cook Hwy will be constructed between McGregor Rd and Cairns Western Arterial Rd roundabouts providing motorists an alternative route to the Cook Hwy. Delays are expected during active hours in both directions.TarzaliRoad damage hazard due to earlier flooding on Hitchconole Road. All lanes in all directions affected. Motorists urged to observe signage. Next road inspection on February 22.Thorton BeachCape Tribulation Road in all directions is subjected to a 15-tonne GVM limit due to bridge damage. No delays expected.
